Race One Of Two-Race Upstate Bomber Challenge Next On RAR Schedule

After two previously scheduled events were canceled due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the Upstate Bomber Series will be making its first and only appearance at Redwood Acres Raceway on Saturday August 15. It will be the first race of a two-race series that is being held at the 3/8-mile Acres oval as well as the 1/3-mile Ukiah Speedway facility on Saturday September 5.

The upcoming race on August 15 was originally scheduled to be the series’ third visit to Redwood Acres Raceway in 2020. Sadly because of the pandemic, both the May 16 and June 20 events were canceled.

2020 is the second year that the Upstate Bomber Series has been in action. Besides racing at RAR and Ukiah Speedway, the touring series has also visited Shasta Speedway in Anderson. RAR’s local bomber drivers will be going up against many of the top bomber racers from the region. Veteran late model driver Mike Doss won the series inaugural race that was held at RAR on May 11, 2019. Charley Tour was the winner of the series’ second race at RAR on July 20. Mikey Lovell won the 2019 series crown with three wins. West coast late model superstar, Jeremy Doss and Brenton Smith were the Upstate Bombers other winners last year. A total of 50 drivers raced the series in 2019.

The Upstate Bomber feature at the Acres will be a 50-lap affair that will pay $1,000 to win. However, to encourage drivers to participate in both races at both tracks, $500 will be paid out after the RAR event while the other $500 will be paid when the driver arrives at Ukiah Speedway gate in September. More detailed information on the race payouts is available on Ukiah Speedway’s Facebook page.

RAR’s local divisions of roadrunners, mini stocks and Legends will also be in action while the late models will have a week off. There will be a test and tune on Friday August 14 from 3 PM to 8 PM. You can find RAR on Facebook and on Twitter @RacinTheAcres.
