Henderson’s 2022 Championship Puts Him Among Acres Elite

David Henderson has racing in his blood. His grandfather raced at Redwood Acres Raceway. His father raced at Redwood Acres Raceway. Even his mother raced for a time at Redwood Acres Raceway.

Henderson has accomplished so much at Redwood Acres Raceway in the past 25 plus years. He has numerous main event wins throughout his career and going into 2022 he had three Thunder Roadster championships and was a two-time and defending late model division champion. By season’s end, Henderson earned his third late model crown and put his name among the all-time greats in the history of the 3/8-mile track.

Henderson had the most wins in the late models in 2022 winning three times. The two times he wasn’t victorious, Henderson had finishes of second and fourth. Besides winning, Henderson was consistently one of the top three fastest qualifiers every week which greatly aided him in earning top finishes.

After several years away from late model action, two-time North State Challenge Series champion Mike Doss returned to race the full season at RAR. The veteran driver showed that he still has what it takes as he finished in the top five in every race this season. In fact, Doss worst finish this season was third in the season opening Rhododendron 100. In any other season the Upper Lake driver would have been the champion but Henderson’s wins gave him the advantage in the final standings.

Luke Hall was a threat to win every week. The Alderpoint driver had speed every week but didn’t have the luck at the end of races that he needed to take the win. Hall placed third in the standings and will surely be hoping for much more in 2023.

Brandon Barwell was another driver who was returning to racing full-time after several years away from racing. Barnwell looked like he never left as he placed in the top five three times enroute to taking fourth position in the points.

Nick Ford finished his rookie of the year winning campaign with a fifth-place effort in the standings. Ford was steady all season long and earned a top five effort during the July 9 race.

Coquille, Oregon driver David Miller was the winner of that July 9 feature event and placed sixth in points in spite of missing two events. The only other driver to win in 2022 was Dane Nissen. The Williams driver won the biggest race of his career with the Rhododendron 100 victory in the season opener in April.
