Barnwell, Hall Tied With RAR Season At The Halfway Point
Five races remain on the schedule for Redwood Acres Raceway’s 2023 season. Racing at the 3/8-mile paved oval is currently on a short “summer break” which will allow drivers and teams in all divisions the chance to focus their efforts as the season winds down.
The late model standings are deadlocked at the top as Brandon Barnwell is tied with Luke Hall with 154 points. Were the season to end at this point, Barnwell would hold the tiebreaker thanks to his win in the June 23 feature event. Third in points is David Miller who has won in all three races he has participated in during the 2023 season including the big money events, the Rhododendron 100 and the Firecracker 100.
Fourth in the standings is rookie Romeo Venza. The Eureka driver had raced in the sportsman division previously at the Acres and he has had a very solid first season behind the wheel of a late model. Nick Ford’s steady and solid driving has him sitting fifth in standings.
Things at the top of the Legends division points are tight and could change drastically in the next race on Saturday July 29, the Legends Of The Redwoods Shootout. With the race being an INEX sanctioned National Qualifier as well as a point race for the NorCal Legends Tour, a large field is expected. The additional car count could prove a benefit or a hinderance for the division’s top runners.
Tyler Krupa leads the Legends points by seven over Landen Green who has had a spectacular rookie effort. 2022 champion Tyler Avelar is 11 points behind Krupa in third. Fourth in the standings is Mac Collado while Andy Thornton is fifth.
Doug Way has a firm grasp on the Bomber standings. He holds a near full-race points lead over Jordan Krupa in second. Kadence Toland is third and a single point behind second. Tyler Krupa is fourth in standings while Lori Brown is the highest rookie in fifth.
Gary Klinetobe has been almost unstoppable in the mini stock division in 2023. He has won all four main events this season and has only missed out on two heat race victories and a trophy dash win. He leads Nick Ford by an astounding 45 points. Allison McCarty is third in points while Colton Kinsey and Cole Peterson are fourth and fifth.
As previously mentioned, racing at Redwood Acres Raceway returns Saturday July 29 for the Legends Of The Redwoods Shootout. Bombers and mini stocks will also be racing during the evening.
