2023 Race Winners At RAR Through July
With the 2023 season at Redwood Acres Raceway nearing its end at the end of September, the opportunities for drivers to take main events are rapidly diminishing. Four races remain on the schedule and main event victories could prove to be a deciding factor as to who will win this year’s individual track championships.
Only three races are left for the late model division with races scheduled this Saturday August 12, Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday August 26 and the O’Reilly Auto Parts Fall Spectacular on Saturday September 23.
Brandon Barnwell and Luke Hall share the point lead in the late model division. Barnwell’s main event victory during the Redwood Acres Fair on Friday June 23 has him ahead on the tiebreaker since Hall has yet to take a main event win thus far in 2023. David Miller has been the winningest driver in the late models this season having taking three wins including the big events in the Rhododendron 100 in April and the Firecracker 100 in July. Miller did not participate in the July 23 race which is why he is behind the two front runners in points.
Feature event wins have been hard to come by for local Legends drivers. Championship leader Tyler Krupa is still waiting for his first main event win. Strong, consistent finishes have him at the top of the standings. Landen Green won his first feature on June 23 but bad luck has put him behind Krupa in points. 2022 champ Tyler Avelar is winless in 2023 and will likely need a victory to gain on the two leaders.
Jeremy Doss has the most Legends wins thus far with two. His father Mike Doss was the winner of the most recent race, the Legends Of The Redwoods Shootout on July 29. Brandon White was the July 8 winner while Cameron Austin scored a main event victory on May 13.
Bomber leader Doug Way has been fast and consistent all year long. Surprisingly, he only has one win in 2023 which came on May 13. Jordan Krupa who is second in the standings has two main event wins. Krupa won the season opener on April 29 along with the May 12 event. Brandon White has scored twice in the bombers this season winning on July 3 and the July 8 combo race with the Upstate Bomber Series. Chris Sarvinski brought home a win in a thriller in the most recent race on July 29.
The mini stocks have been dominated by Gary Klinetobe in 2023. The Fortuna driver has won all five main events in the division so far which has earned him a 73-point cushion over Cole Peterson in second.
Tickets for Saturday’s race presented by Cook's BBQ are currently available on RacinTheAcres.com and can also be purchased in-person at Automasters in Eureka, Don’s Rent-All in Eureka, McKinleyville Barbershop and JC Auto in Fortuna.
