Barnwell, Taylor, Sorrels Hope To Expand Their Point Leads Saturday Night
The 2025 season at Redwood Acres Raceway hits its stretch run this Saturday as Leon’s Car Care Center will present a full night of racing. Only three races remain on the calendar for the year which makes every race and every position even more critical for those looking to take the championship in each division. The Mid-City Motor World Late Models will headline the event while Legends, Jr. Legends, bombers, mini stocks and the Eel River Transportation & Salvage Dirt 4 Bangers will also be racing.
Brandon Barnwell has been unstoppable in the Mid-City Motor World Late Model division this season winning all four main events so far. Barnwell holds a strong 57-point lead over Jerry Peterson in the season standings. Joe Bonomini in third is the only other driver within 100 points of Barnwell as he is 95 in arrears. Ryun Leazer and Louie Shaha complete the top five.
Scott Taylor took over the Legends division points lead thanks in part due to a second-place effort in the most recent race on July 26. Taylor leads Trey Daniels by 28 markers. Veteran Mac Collado is third in points, 32 behind Taylor while Kylie Daniels in fourth and Chris Lawrence in fifth are 69 and 94 points out of the lead.
The championship race in the bombers is a fight between the Sorrels family as young T.J. Sorrels leads his father Jimmy Sorrels by 34 points. T.J.’s sister, Kimberley Rojas is third but well behind at 167 points out. Dustin Walters and Raymond Taylor, Jr. round out the top five in standings.
The mini stock class has Garrett Wheeler and Jarrett Mayo tied for the lead. Phoenix Venza has been the only competitor in the Jr. Legends division this far and is unchallenged in the standings. The limited modifieds will have their second of two races at the Acres Saturday. Charlie Collins won the May 17 feature over Landyn Collins.
An open practice is scheduled for Friday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Saturday, grandstands open at 3:00 PM with racing starting at 5:00 PM.
