Barnwell Bests Hall In Late Model Thriller
The 2025 season at Redwood Acres Raceway reached its conclusion this past Saturday night. Fans in attendance for the Steve Taylor Memorial Fall Spectacular were treated to a full night of exciting racing on the 3/8-mile paved oval. The Mid-City Motor World Late Models headlined the event along with the Upstate Bomber Series, Upstate Modified Series, Legends, mini stocks and the Eel River Transportation & Salvage Dirt 4 Bangers.
Qualifying for the Mid-City Motor World Late Models was paced by Luke Hall with a 15.669 time. Brandon Barnwell was the winner of the heat race. The 45-lap main event went green from start to finish with Jerry Peterson and Hall battling for the top spot in the opening lap. Hall was able to gain the advantage on lap two while Barnwell moved into second on lap three.
As the race progressed, Hall and Barnwell pulled away from the rest of the field and it became a two-man race for the lead. Both cars looked equal for most of the race but Barnwell’s car appeared to gain the upper hand in the final 20 laps of the race. A mistake by Hall with nine laps remaining going into turn three proved to be all Barnwell needed as he was able to move under and eventually past Hall for the race lead. Barnwell was able to pull away to take the victory over Hall by nearly two seconds. Landen Green had a stellar debut in his first late model race placing third while Jerry Peterson and Scott Baker rounded out the top five finishers. In addition to the main event win, Barnwell also claimed the 2025 track championship for the division.
Terry Pittman’s 17.833 in qualifying set a new standard for the Upstate Bomber Series. Pittman followed up with a heat race win while Jeremiah Martin was also a heat race victor. The 40-lap feature was a runaway for Pittman. The Redwood Valley driver was able to beat Kobe Taylor for the lead on lap one and was unchallenged for the rest of the caution-free feature. Ryan Walters placed second, five seconds behind Pittman. Tony Ramazzotti finished third followed by T.J. Sorrels in fourth and Taylor in fifth. Sorrels’ fourth place effort helped give him the championship for the Upstate Bomber Series for 2025.
Luke Hall was fast time for the Upstate Modified Series with a 17.010 and was the winner of the heat race. David Furia took the main event win over Hall who took the series’ championship. Gene O’Dell placed second with Christian Sanchez third.
There were first-time winners in both the Legends and mini stocks on Saturday night. Scott Taylor set fast time for the Legends with an 18.126 and was the winner of the heat and main event over Mac Collado, Ryan Molina and Phoenix Venza who made his division debut. Taylor was crowned the 2025 Legends division champion.
Cole Peterson had a similar night in the mini stocks as he had fast time with an 18.972 and was the winner of the heat and main event. Allison Mayo placed second followed by 2025 mini stock champ Garrett Wheeler. Mel Bruce finished fourth with Sorhna Li fifth.
The Eel River Transportation & Salvage Dirt 4 Banger heat was won by Gene O’Dell while David Furia was the main event winner over Colton Kinsey, Skeeter Byrnes, Robert Reddick and O’Dell.
